L’histoire du Kiwi blanc par Daniella Jordan.

THE WHITE KIWI

On Tuesday 6th May, Daniella Jordan from New Zealand told us the story of the white kiwi named Manukura. It was born in 2011 in Pukaha Mount Bruce National Wildlife Center. She presented us other New Zealand native birds like the Kaka, Kokapo, Kakako, Kea and the lizard Tuatara.

The cagou
The cagou is one of the emblems of New Caledonia.
The cagou is about 60 cm tall.
The cagou has white and grey feathers.
Cagous put their crest (huppe) up and open their wings when they feel threatened (menacé).
The cagou makes a “kagu” sound or “barks” in the morning and in the evening.
The female cagou lays one egg per year.
The cagou can see very well.

The cagou eats insects, worms, lizards and snails.
The cagou is protected in New Caledonia.
The cagou doesn’t fly.
Its enemies are dogs, cats, wild pigs, rats and humans.

The kiwi is very timid and comes out at night.

The kiwi doesn’t make any sound.

The kiwi doesn’t fly.
